Baghouse dust collector 3 air inlet pros and cons analysis

The design of the air inlet of the bag dust collector has a great influence on the dust removal efficiency and the cleaning effect.

The bag-type dust collector has three air inlet modes.

1. Lower air inlet mode

Lower air inlet mode means the air entering from the lower part of the box or the dust hopper.

Due to the sudden spread of the airflow, the flow velocity suddenly decreases, and a part of the larger particles of dust fall into the dust hopper by gravity, and then the airflow go through the air deflector is distributed to the filter element, a part of the large particles of dust directly settles, which can reduce the wear on the filter bag and minimize the deposition of dust particles on the dust bag, and prolong the time interval of cleaning;

In the case of the reverse blow cleaning method, the direction of sedimentation of the dust-cleaned particulate matter is opposite to the direction of the cleaned airflow, which not only hinder the sedimentation of the smoke dust, but also produces a “secondary flying dust” effect on the cleaning effect when backflushing.

This phenomenon is particularly obvious when using long bags.

Of course, the structure of the lower air inlet mode is relatively simple and the cost is low, which is the most popular method in the process.

2. Side air inlet mode

Side inlet mode is generally used in the outer filter bag type dust collector.

Aeropulse Incorporated has developed a full side air inlet method, which has obvious advantages.

Full side air inlet baghouse dust collect,  the dust-containing gas enters the inlet flue from the side of the box, and then passes through the flue gas distribution device and side air inlet, evenly distributing the dust-containing gas, which can coarsely separate the large-diameter solid particles, which can avoid direct impact of the filter bag and protect the filter bag and increases the efficiency and durability of the whole dust removal system.

Under the premise of the same filtering wind speed, the same dust-containing gas flow rate and the same dust removal efficiency, the full side air inlet has less resistance loss than the lower air inlet, thereby reducing operating costs, reducing system energy consumption.

Moreover, due to side air inlet, the resulting airflow rises at a lower rate when the dust falls from the top of the dust collector to the dust hopper, the possibility of being taken away again is relatively reduced.

Due to side impact of the airflow on the filter bag, the filter bag will be worn and tear, and the filter bag service life is shortened.

 3. Upper air inlet mode

The dusty flue gas enters from the upper of the filter bag and discharges from the lower part, which is called upper air inlet mode.

In the upper air inlet baghouse dust collector, the sedimentation direction of the dust in the dusty flue gas is the same as the moving direction of the flue gas, so in the process of downward flow, regardless of the particle size of the dust particles, there is a chance that they will not be caught by the filter bag and fall into the dust hopper.

The baghouse dust collector has better effect on the gas containing more ultrafine dust (<3μm), and the resistance of the device is small. However, the dust collector generally should have more perforated plates, the mechanism is complicated, and it is difficult to adjust the tension of the filter bag.

In the dust hopper, there is stagnant air, which is easy to accumulate dust and thus there is a possibility that water vapor is condensed, which is not convenient for dust cleaning.

So this method has been gradually eliminated and now it is basically not used in the process.
